Where the base plates and side plates overlap it forms a riveted 7mm-thick rail for extra rigidity. Looks good. Easy install. We’ll see how it holds up. I bought it mainly for gravel roads and the odd bump so it should be more than enough.

I purchased this skid plate in preparation for the trip I’m planning next summer… the Trans-Labrador highway. I just installed this today, and I must say I’m pretty impressed at how beefy this is. I’m confident this will provide the protection I need for this trip.
The only hiccup in the installation was that the skid plate conflicts with the Honda centre stand. I had to make a quick “adjustment” to the plate with my angle grinder to gain a few mm of clearance.
The stock protection basically non-existent. If planning a mainly dirt/rock road trip, this is a must have!

I bought this after 40k miles of riding my NC. Almost all highway. I centerpunched some debries on the freeway, which damaged the factory plastic skid plate. When I went to install the Motech plate, I found that the damage extended to the coolant reservoir as well, and it’s just plain luck that it hadn’t vented all the coolant and left me stranded.
Bottom line, the factory plastic is for looks, if you want actual protection for your coolant bottle and oil filter, buy this!

Make sure that you are specific between NC700X / DCT.
