Description

Two-tone Black and Aluminum finish

Installation of the SW-MOTECH skid plate requires previous installation of SW-MOTECH crash bars which are sold separately. The SW-MOTECH skid plate is not compatible with Givi or Hepco-Becker crash bars.

The SW-MOTECH skid plate can be used without a center stand or with the SW-MOTECH Suzuki or Hepco-Becker center stand.

4mm-thick base plate and 2.5mm-thick side plates overlap at the seams to provide 6.5mm-thick rails on the outer edges of the skid plate for added strength and stability.

The skid plate has a pre-drilled hole in the bottom so that the oil drain plug bolt can be accessed without removing the skid plate. This allows the oil to be changed without removing the skid plate. In order to change the oil filter the skid plate’s two rear mounting screws must be removed and the two front mounting screws must be loosened to allow the skid plate to pivot out forward and allow access to the oil filter.

No other holes are present in the bottom of the skid plate; the cutout that was present in previous versions of the skid plate has been eliminated.

Only two screws need to be removed from the plate to allow access behind the skidplate to change the oil and filter.

I purchased the SW Motech Skid plate as my bike already was equipped with the SW motech engine guards. The Skid palte was on sale and the ease of ordering and shipping time was what I expected. It took me longer to install than I liked, but I spent more time trying to figure out how to hold the bike up without the side stand ( I had ordered the center stand, but alas, it was back ordered and the skid plate came first.
The instructions are mostly drawings and I did watch several videos of installation, so it made it a fairly simple job.
I used heat to break the thread lock on the side stand bolts. It made removing them much easier. Also, I had to turn around the coupler for the engine guards 180 degrees to mount the skid plate as without the skid plate, the bolts go in one direction and with it, they go the other way. The nut indentations on the coupler needed to be reversed. Look like a quality product. If it works anything like the engine guards, I will be very happy.

    Great quality, bolts on easily

I installed the engine guard and skid plate on my 2005 DL650. The parts are very high quality and great looking. I also installed the center stand at the same time and everything bolted on easily. It took a little thought to figure out which to install first but I figured out that the engine guards should go on first, then the skid plate (which uses the engine guard as front support) and then the center stand. I left everything slightly loose until done, then I tightened everything. Instructions are not great; just pictures, but with a little patience I figured it out quickly. Total install time for all 3 parts was about 2 hours.

    tough engine guard

Have had this guard for about a year and a half now. Found it to be the best looking guard on the market and appeared very sturdy. After going over a dip on a gravel road with a rock hidden on the other side , I found it IS very sturdy. Saved my oil filter and engine itself. Never left a mark on the guard but did break a couple of rivets. Considering how hard I hit, very impressive.

    Nice Engine Guard

    sdyer

The guard was easy to mount and took me about 45 minutes to install. It is lighter in weight than some other skid plate brands I have seen for the strom and I think this is a plus. The minus is it is a bit pricy but once I got the guard in my hands to look it over I saw how well made it is. The quality I see in its manufacturing, welding and powder coating took some of the sting out of the cost for it. I think this will be more than adequate in protecting the really exposed oil filter/oil cooler.
