Great service from Twisted Throttle as always. Just installed them yesterday and fit perfect. Even from side to side and they look great. SW-Motech rocks.

Put on my 15 Triumph Tiger Explorer XC – not quite the same finish as the stock engine guards, but they do not look out of place. A little tricky to install, as I had to double up on some socket/ratchet extenders to reach the inside nuts for tightening – helps to have another person to do it as well. Once installed, good feelings all around as they are very sturdy and appear to offer advertised protection against radiator damage if you tip over… I hope not to test this! Also, typical SW Motech top-notch quality and appearance. There was one rub mark on a bar from contact during shipping, but it was very small and not noticeable when installed, so no big deal. Just hope the packaging ‘powers-that-be’ read this so it doesn’t happen for someone else. A little more bubble wrap around the blunt end would have cured that.

I considered other brands of crashbars, but have always been more than satisfied with SW Motech’s products. I’m glad I chose this one; it’s thick, tough, well- made and a very attractive product.

I purchased these about a month ago when I first bought my new TEX. They are build solid and pretty straight forward on installation. The bolts seem stout enough that they wont shear off if I should ever have to use the crash bars for what they are designed for. As long as you have the right sockets, extensions and a socket elbow you should be good. In short, I am very pleased with these bars and would get them again.
FYI you will need large Torx and Allen sockets for engine bolt removal and new installation.

These guards work great, the installation is easy and they do not interfere with other accessories available for the Triumph Explorer

Had these put on my Tiger Explorer XC on Friday and crashed hard in the woods twice on Saturday. Once in some mud and ruts and then in hard sand/mud. Crash bars held up perfectly.
I had them installed by my dealership and they had it done in about 45 minutes. Way quicker than I could have done it.

Just installed the crash bars a week ago, went pretty well. Took about an hour, not too bad. You’ll need a long socket extension, universal and also a T-55 Torx. Other than that, just regular tools..

I have mounted many bike-specific accessories in my 47 years of motorcycling and some are obviously better designed than others. Every SW-Motech product that I equipped my Tiger Explorer with went on flawlessly without any bending, stretching, prying or the ever-popular enlarging of mounting holes. Truly precision design and fit. The instructions could be more complete; fortunately we have the Internet forums for that. This particular installation requires a variety of tools including universal/wobble joints, long extensions, large TORX bit, torque wrench, etc. that might not be found in the casual mechanics toolbox, so be aware that “precision fit” doesn’t mean they mount themselves.

I had these installed at the first service for my explorer. The are solid, but they sure get warm from the engine heat! I’m sure they will do their job and they give me a good place to mount driving lights. The name plate on the top rail is pretty tacky though. Any hints on how to remove it without making a mess?

i bought these after putting my bike down with my girlfriend on the back. The dirt road turned into a sand pit, so we had a little cushion. I still wanted a little more help keeping the bike off of us. Structurally, these seem like they will do the job.
I do with that the powder coat was more mat, to match my lower triumph bars and engine. Oh well.
Installation can be a little interesting, Once i figured out how to hold the nut, it was a breeze. I used a 1/2 speed handle and deep socket although a U-joint and long extension would probably be almost as easy (with deep socket). Sorry, i forgot the socket size. Basicly, you have to hold a locking nut that is recessed, and has a good bit of thread sticking out, so you need the deep socket. It’s real tight getting in there and it is not a straight shot, it lines up perfectly with the motor mount on the opposite side, hence the u-joint, the bend in a speed handle also offset quite nicely. Once those two nuts were figured out, everything else was a snap.

Easy install and great fit and great looking. I did a 300 mile run the next day and had to make a little modification. My riding style is up close to the tank and found that my right knee was ever so slightly rubbing against the engine connection mount, so I took some 1″ pipe insulation and wrapped it with 3m electric tape then used two zip straps to hold in place. The nice day I did another long run and it was like a pillow.

After a true adventure ride I came home with broken trim pieces and the bike’s cockpit held on with zipties, pipe clamps and paracord… It was a great time!!! After dropping the bike one too many times on gnarly terrain, the front cockpit to frame mount cracked, likely due to impact on the fog light bracket, etc…
It looks like this crash bar will keep this from happening during future adventures. Also traveling on terrain meant for adventure bikes rather than trial bikes would help too.
Install was relatively easy and is very quick if you have an extra hand. You’ll aslo need every socket wrench extension that you have in your toolbox topped off with a 17mm socket.
Before you begin make sure to loosen the bolts holding the factory crash bars in place.. install the upper crash bars and keep the bolts loose until everything is aligned and the front cross bar is connected loosely.Unless you want to lay on the bike superman style and wrench with both hands, get your friend to work the socket wrench with the 37 extensions to tighten the back side of the upper mounting bolts.

This was the first thing I added to my Explorer. Installation wasn’t hard but wasn’t exactly easy. Installation requires a T55 Torx bit, a 17mm wrench, a 17mm deep socket, a 10mm hex driver, a universal joint for your ratchet, some LONG socket extensions, and a torque wrench.
I ordered on a Thursday and they got to my house on Tuesday. That Saturday I tried some fire roads in a nearby state park, subsequently testing both sides of the bars. The only damage I found anywhere on the bike was a small scuff on one mirror. Well worth the price.
Highly recommended.

These bars just look like they belong on the TEX! And they provide a handy location for mounting Foot-pegs to stretch out should you be on a long straight boring stretch of road.
If there is anything that they could do to make it look more like OEM it would be to have a dull black finish Vs the shiny black. But I’m not complaining!

I’ve been off the bike for 3 months due to a shoulder surgery so it’s been farkle time! The SW-Motech guards fit like a glove on my 2012 Tiger Explorer. The quality, fit, & finish are near perfect and they are a great addition to my OEM lower case guards. Some guys say they are a pain to install, but with the proper tools it only took me an hour and that’s working with a bum shoulder. The gloss black didn’t go well with the flat stovepipe black on my OE guards, so I did remove the lower bars & repainted them with gloss black then sprayed on a couple coats of matt clear on both sets of guards. They also look pretty sharp with the Barkbuster Storms I got from Twisted Throttle a couple of months ago.

The Explorer is a top heavy girl. Give her an inch of lean and she goes down on you :)….. Already put them to the test and they saved any damage and even the cheesy OEM panniers survived. Worth the investment and give you a GSA wannabe look.
Install needs an extra long socket extension with a 6pt 1/2 socket. Don’t know for the street if you have to still use engine case guards but they work perfect with factory engine guards. Buy them

While on a 2 hour trail ride in NM. A rain storm hit and the trail turned very muddy. This caused me to crash, the bike landed on the right side with not one scratch on the paint. I then proceed to drop the bike 10 more times on both side trying to ride out of the area. The mud became too much for the bike and I had to abandon it in the forest overnight. The next day I went back got the bike and drove it to a car wash. After being dropped 11 times I didn’t have one scratch on the paint work or the crash bars for that matter. Money well spent, I am sorry to say that somewhere in the mud is one of my bolt on foot peg for the bars.

I just installed these on my ’12 TEX. They inspire confidence in the protection they will offer if the bike goes down. These things are made in Germany, incredible precision – when they come together in the middle it fits like a glove.
My bike came with the skid pan and the lower protection bars from the factory.
Highly Recommend !!!

Great crash bars!!!! Hope I never use them! 🙂 I wanted upper and lower crash bars on my explorer! I felt the engine cases were a vulnerability. For this I installed the OEM crash guards.
These do well however the do not protect the upper portion of the bike….ummm, like radiator, tank and tank flare thingies.
Solution….ahhh, use both crash guards. They created their own symbiotic relationship!!!!
Twisted ROKZ….thanks guys!!!!
