One of our customers put together a nice little “Photo-Blog” of his install to see it follow this link.

    Nice product

    Andrew

Purchased these bars for my 2008 versys 650. Service from twisted throttle was great. The bars are well made, nice clean bends and welds, the instructions leave a little to be desired. Had some minor paint imperfections on mine, almost looked like air bubbles that had popped and left pin head sided holes in the paint. The right side bar rear mounting bolt sticks out just enough to catch your shoe on it while going for the brake lever, something to keep in mind. All in all a decent product and added protection for your bike is always a plus.

    great product

The crash bars did their job well. The very next day after installation I hit a speed bump and forgot what gear I was in, stalling and dropping the bike, no damage and I went on my way.

    They work

    Jeremy

So I bought these crash bars back in 2013. Today I finally got them installed.

So first the instructions are not great they only show one side of the bike and give minimal details. That being said I still managed to find all the attachment points without much trouble. The main problem I had was that the quality control on these was not the greatest.

So the first time I tried to install these it appeared to me that there was no way I could get them on. The bracket which the U-bolt attaches to on the right side was welded on pretty wonky. I tried for several hours and could not for the life of me get it to fit the bike. I contacted Twisted throttle and they said send them some pictures and they would ship me a new set. Mind you this was a year after I had first purchased them, props to Twisted throttle I have had nothing but good experience with their customer service!

So I ended up moving and being busy for a year or two and finally figured I would just grind out the welds and re-weld the bracket then I would have crash bars.

Before I did all that though I decided to try one more time to install the bars as is. Well I did it and the secret was to get the U-bolts started FIRST then do the other attachment points. So success I finally have crash bars.

Here are some photo’s of the attachments points since the instructions don’t even show any on the right side.

Note on the right side the forward attachment point has a factory spacer that you must use when you install the crash bars.

    Great accessory

    Naitramde

I wanted something to protect my 2011 Versys that looks good too. SW-Motech’s crash bars are perfect.
And now I have a place to mount my highway pegs. Although I would like to see SW-Motech come up with their own hardware for adding pegs/accessories. I had to do some searching for the right parts or was going to have to make it myself. Luckily I found another mfg (Bike Master) who makes 7/8 bar clamps (with accessory mount) that worked nicely with a slight modification. I used my passenger foot pegs, welded up my own brackets so the pegs use their own mechanism to lock in the in or out position. These work great. Now just need SW-Motech to mfg these.
Later when I can afford my driving lights, these bars will provide an excellent location for mounting the lights.

Installed Easily, thankfully haven't tested them!

    NilesS

Installing the Crashbars went quite easily on my 2008 Versys. I had some caps that I put on the bolts and it cleaned up the install quite a bit. After reading about other people’s installs, I would suggest putting black tubing on the U-Bolts before installing them – it will clean it up a bit more and also add some padding to prevent damage.

Excellent fit, super easy to install!

    Barb

I did a few searches online to see what folks were mounting on the Versys 650, these bars seemed to give the best coverage for the engine as well as the upper plastics. I like that they match the Versys’ frame lines and give you more placement options for bolt-on accesories like auxiliary lights.

They were very easy to install, and all the parts have a perfect fit. The only thing I’d improve on is the U-bolt clamps, which are your simple hardware store parts and look it…..but the Versys is so rare that this lowers the cost for the whole kit.

I didn’t notice any more vibration than before I mounted them, an issue some have reported. My bike is a second gen, so it may have been an issue with the first gen only?

All in all, I know that if/when the Versys ever goes down….it will be well protected, and the peice of mind it well worth it.

    Great job, SW-Motech!

Oh, and a note about purchase/shipping…..there was only one place to get these from in Canada, but that is no issue as Twisted Throttle has a decent price, fast shipping and great sales staff!

  8. Ninjan33r

Managed to fit on my California model Versys 650

    Ninjan33r

I decided that I would be able to figure out how to install the crash bars despite the disclaimers about using them on the California models and found that doing so was easier than I had hoped. I punched a new mounting hole in the bracket for the evaporative emissions package and rotated it a little bit counter-clockwise to clear the upper clamp on the crash bar. After that I needed to carve a little off the plastic cover for the same package to clear the same clamp. No modifications were needed on the crash bar. The bars are solid with a nice finish. They look good on the motorcycle and provide a great spot for mounting a GoPro with little vibration.

    Great Product..Instructions not...

    VonB

I agree with all the other reviewers, this is a solid product, doing the installation by my self toke 90min. one thing others didn’t mention is (unless i mess it.) the original bolts will have a different size bolt than the new ones, no being picky but it would have been nice to use the same size socket as the bolt your removing.

Overall I love them, i now feel a little more secure if i drop my Versys 2009

    Great Product; horrible instuctions

    Scott13Versys

I love the guards and the way they look; super sturdy. Not really that hard to install once you figure out the hieroglyphics that they call instructions…..that’s the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Great So Far! (2008 Kawasaki Versys)

    akfa

Installation wasn’t too bad. Taking plastics off was the hardest part. Appears to be great protection, and still looks good. Hope I don’t ever have to test it, but I assume it’ll do it’s job. I’ll update if i ever find out. Price seems a little steep, but for the peace of mind it’s worth it for me. Not to mention the quality great and doing business with SW Motech is a pleasure.

  12. tommy2cyl

    Overall happy, but..........

    tommy2cyl

The nylon lock nuts that come with the new front bolts are too tall and will not fit in the allowable space deep enough to enable the new bolt to align. The stock nuts were about half the width of the new ones, but they are a different thread pattern. Had to make a trip to my local hardware store to get new thinner nuts and use lock washers. Oh, and the new bolts, nuts are a different thread than stock. Found that out the hardway b/c I tried using the stock nut on the new bolts. So, not only had to buy new nuts but also a new bolt. I can’t be the only person having this problem. Otherwise, well built product and am satisfied overall. It’s not a project if you don’t have to make an extra trip to the hardware store, right?

    Reccomended

    Sinisa

Great bars for sure, Easy to install and look nice too.

However, I would make the instructions a little clearer, it’s slightly frustrating but the pictures help a lot. Also, I think it might be better to have a curved metal piece to bolt around frame rather than the flat piece with a U-bolt.

Overall, good investment and I’m happy with the purchase ^.^

    Unintentionally Tested Both Sides

    Edmund

Right side: I had them installed on my 2013 Versys for about a week when I dropped the bike backing it in to my garage.

Left side: 2 weeks later while making a very slow u turn, lost my footing, before I knew it my baby was on her side.

Both times the bike was saved because of the crash bar!!! Even before I bought these, I knew it was well worth the $s, because I was certain it was just a matter of “when” and not “if” the bike will take be dropped.

Also, really glad I bought these from TT.com.

Got these bars quickly. easy to install, the directions are not the clearest, but if you study the picture its fairly clear when to mount. Takes a bit a playing with to get them on, but anybody can install them. worth the money ! and they look really nice on the bike.

    Great Crash Bars

    Anonymous

I ordered these bars immediately after picking up my bike (Kawasaki Versys) that I dropped in my driveway.

I received them a few days later and they were installed less than an hour after I opened the box. Installation was simple though the written instructions weren’t all that great. The pictures help more than the words.

Installation of the crash bars has not caused any vibrations or any changes to the handling of the bike. Now I ride (and park) my bike without worrying as much about cosmetic or structural damage to the bike in the event of a spill.

Great service as always from Twisted Throttle.
