On October 1 2008 Doug Elliot wrote to us:
“Just before dawn Saturday morning I installed my new set of SW-Motech crash bars on my K1200R. Early Sunday morning I leave for my usual weekend loop through the San Bernardino Mountains. I casually burble through the sleepy mountain top town of Crestline and begin the 5 mile down hill switch back corkscrew hairpin turn-addled asphalt descent toward Silverwood. Entering into a steeply descending 30 mph corkscrew at about 30mph the front wheel washes out as if the road itself had been pulled out from under me. Things learned:

-The SW MOTECH Crash Bars WORKED!! Save for some road rash on the clutch slave cylinder the engine bay is unscathed. (Note to self: there is a tidy little aluminum guard I spied recently for protecting that part)
-The crash bars although heavily road rashed CAN and WILL continue service with a little massage by a metal file and a can of semi gloss black spray paint.
-A trashed blinker and frame slider and a lightly scuffed silencer and air box cover/snorkel about wraps up the bike damage.

Doug’s post-crash photo is shown on this web page.

    Very difficult to install

It seems to be very easy, don’t get fooled. Installation instructions are not explicit. Well finished product.
