Mitas E-07, Dual-Sport, Rear 17 inch, Size 170/60-17, 50% Street / 50% Dirt, Tubeless Bias Ply Tire

Purchased on 4/19/2018 Mitas E-07+ tires for 2018 BMW R1200GS. 55 years off-road experience. Moderate aggression (these days). I ride lots of fire roads in the Allegheny Mountains of Virginia – from West Virginia to North Carolina. TransAmerica Trails, BDR, US Forest roads, secret roads! I also ride lots of twisty byways and occasionally I spend an hour or two droning along on an Interstate highway at 79MPH. When off-road I try to avoid really muddy roads if possible but gnarly rock-strewn, gullied dirt roads that cross creeks is normal fare. The E-07+ tires hook up very well in these environs and track straight and true even through slippery creeks. I occasionally get caught in a washed out downhill shale gully but these tires and that amazing motorcycle just roll over edges, rocks and obstacles like they weren’t there. On the road, the tires sing a bit, but except for some tread roughness I feel in the ride, they corner very well and telegraph clearly when they are at the point of slip.They do an amazing job of almost ignoring gravel in corners on paved roads. Its either the ultra-sophisticated active suspension of the BMW or the tires – or both that really limit any drama when even fine, sandy gravel is encountered briefly in a corner. With 3000 miles the center of the rear tire has lost about 50% of its tread depth (now it sings less!) but the front tire has over 80% of its center tread. Note: the new R1200GS has 125HP with lots of acceleration with the speed shifter, so any rear tire takes a beating. The tire edge treads front and back are almost like new – which reminds me, on steeply crowned dirt / rock mountain roads these tires grip very well – the edges of these tire really bite in so I can hold a line easily without slippage on the edge of a crown. Only during extreme braking (e.g deer avoidance) on clean pavement can I readily tell that I am on semi-knobby 50/50 tires that do not stop nearly as well as the stock 90/10 Metzeler Tourance. Oh, the BMW dealer installed these tires, the mechanic said the tires were super easy to install. Then after a test ride, the mechanic said he wanted a set for his R1200GS! The dealership now carries Mitas. So all is good with the E-07+ tires.

Purchased tires for the 2013 R1200GS and had delivered to brother’s house in Denver. Road 900+ miles to have installed by BMW motoradd of Denver in centennial, CO. Original tires are factory Michelins . I always complained about the road noise. After installation of the Mitas E07 tires, I was impressed with the less noise they produced. I road about 15 miles on them so far. They handled well in the corners on dry pavement. I will be completing my trip to WA State and then back to Texas. I will be doing partial IDBDR and COBDR on the return. After reading other reviews on the Mitas, I suspect they will be outstanding off road. If I find this is not they case I will update this review.
