Description

Working with Dakar Rally Rider Patrick Trahan Twisted throttle has designed a hard bolted side carrier system to compliment the Steel-Rack toprack also designed for his trip. Patrick then tested these carriers over 3 000 miles of North & Central Africa.

Please Note: It is advised not to exceed 22 – 23 lbs. including  case and mounting hardware to acheive the best results.

Required luggage-specific adapter kits are sold separately. The hard bolted racks are made of flat steel which presents the narrowest possible lateral profile. Bolt-on installation — no cutting or welding of motorcycle frame or bodywork is necessary. Racks are designed to work with original equipment manufacturer components — fender exhaust etc.

Note: Also compatible with Micatech V2 Cases

PITA to Install - Still Have Problems. Solid Rack

    Mark

I just spent four hours installing these racks when it shouldn’t have taken an hour. Mounting brackets did not come close to lining up with holes and instructions are poorly written, poorly illustrated, and possibly incorrect. Had to bend parts of the racks to make them fit – and this is on a new XR650L with 700 miles and no damage. I can’t figure out how to replace the left side cover without removing the rack again to get it back on, and last, the left side turn signal will not mount on the new bracket because the wires are way too short. I’ll figure that one out tomorrow.

All that said, the racks appear to be rigid and well made and I hope worth the effort to get them on.

    Excellent Product!!

I installed these on my new 2017 Honda XR650L. This is the second time I’ve purchased and reviewed this product. My first set was installed on my 2012 XR650L. I sold my 2012 but missed the bike so much I bought another one. These side racks are absolutely THE BEST. They are very versatile and can be used with many different brands of luggage as well as fuel cells such as Rotopax. They are easy to install and are direct bolt on NO DRILLING required VERY RUGGED quality product I highly recommend!!

    simple installation

I would have given 5 stars, but there should be mention of having to remove the seat so that you can access and reroute the turn signal wiring to meet the elongated mounting point, plus you do need to drill out the hole in the turn signal extension bar so that the anti-rotation pin can fit.

    Excellent Product

Installed on my 2012 XR650L. VERY RUGGED !! Fit the bike perfectly. I am using Givi E21 Saddlebags, and a SW-Motech Rear bag which is strapped down on top of the SW-Motech Rear rack. I also installed the SW-Motech sub-frame support arms. I am very happy with all the above mentioned products and the service and support from Twisted Throttle is the BEST !!

  7. Motoviking

    Very Impressive and stout!

    Motoviking

I am pretty sure this side carrier kit will be handle a dump on the side and not even scratch the powder coating. This is built with ruggedness in mind. I am also fairly sure that the design also reinforces the already weak subframe. I added the SW Toprack and I think it all ties in nicely. I plan to install Rotopaxs on them.

    SW-Motech Rack Honda XR 650L

    Don

I bought these SW- Motech racks to mount my new Mosko Moto Soft Panniers.
The racks are rock solid and should help support the notoriously weak rear frame of the XR650L. The Mosko Moto 35 liter soft panniers fit very well on this rack, they too are rock solid!

  10. earltintman2001

    Solid as a rock.

    earltintman2001

At first I thought 22lb ship weight was a little excessive. After installing it I realized how sturdy this unit was. This is much more solid than the Givi unit that was on the bmw f650gs. The left side went together without a hitch. The right side took some muscle and persuasion by way of a dead blow hammer to get the holes to line up. I cant really blame motech because the welds in the honda frame were different distances apart from one side to the other. I wish the paint was a little bit harder to scratch.
