Description

These black powder-coated steel racks are compatible with luggage cases from GIVI (Monokey system) TraX ALU-BOX Pelican Micatech V2 Kappa Shad Hepco-Becker Krauser and more. Adapter kits are sold separately. Strong enough to withstand adventure-touring off-road abuse yet completely removable for local cruising or track days. When the racks are removed only 3-4 small mounting tabs remain visible on either side of the bike. These mounting tabs are almost invisible preserving the original visual appearance and size of your motorcycle. Required luggage-specific adapter kits are sold separately. In addition optional key locks (sold separately) are available to lock the racks to the bike with the key unlocking a pair of special quick-release fasteners which secure the racks on each side. The Quick-Lock racks are made of flat steel which presents the narrowest possible lateral profile. Bolt-on installation — no cutting or welding of motorcycle frame or bodywork is necessary. Racks are designed to work with original equipment manufacturer components — fender exhaust etc. The SW-MOTECH racks are ideal for the occasional weekend tourer who desires a “stealth” look during the week as well as the weekday commuter who needs an unencumbered machine for spirited weekend fun. Whatever your needs the SW-MOTECH racks allow maximum flexibility and convenience.

Installation Notes:

  • Turn signal relocation requires reuse of original turn signals and turn signal support washer located inside the original fender. See instructions.
  • Not for use with Fender Eliminator Kits.
  • Not for use with ABS models.

I got my luggage racks through from SW-Motech. Easy to fit. Three points of contact as follows:
1. Pillion footrest is temporarily removed to attach the [mounting] bracket. Footpegs go back on [after installation is complete].
2. Sissy Bar is replaced with new tubular black version fom SW-MOTECH.
3. SW-MOTECH bracket is attached to license plate holder. Indicators are moved and license plate is moved down slightly.

Downsides:
-Different Sissy Bar
-Have to retain ugly rear fender
-Had to drill two new holes in license plate for it to fit.

Upsides:
-I can use hard luggage keeping all my gear dry.
-Brackets are removable within 1 minute for a clean look when luggage is not required.

Here is a picture of my SV with the SW-MOTECH (with the sideracks detached).
I used it this summer on my holiday in France. It worked perfect and I really liked the feature that I could just “click” off the rack when we arrived to our destination. The arrows show the mounting points for the sideracks.

    Great side carriers!

    Matt P

I happened to purchase these through another vendor because they had a used set. I found the installation process to be “OK,” not an easy-breezy task, but by no means was it complicated. I use these to mount SW-MOTECH Trax ION cases (as well as a top case. Even though I don’t ride an ADV bike they still look and work great. I have an ADMORE light bar so I didn’t bother moving my turn signals and I am still toying with the idea of doing it. I added the anti-theft locking knobs and mounted them right by the pillion seat so a thief cannot easily get to their back side. The side carriers attach and remove in a breeze and the cases mount like a they were made for each other… Oh wait they were.

I bought this rack for my 2006 sv650 so I could ride with Givi E22N Monokey side cases. I also bought the Trekker Monokey side case adapters which worked brilliantly.

As many people have said above, the rack works very well, but does not work right out of the box. I also found that the new mount for the rear turn signals did not have the correct size hole in it, so I had to fashion a rubber buffer between the mount and the turn signal to get it to stick on. The wire extensions included with the kit were not long enough to re-mount the turn signals, so I had to use other wires. Cylindrical spacers included with the kit for part of the rack installation were too long and needed to be ground down by a few mm to fit correctly. Overall, it’s a very high quality piece of equipment but it took a lot of labor and some extra parts to get it to install correctly.

I’d only recommend this product if you have confidence in your own mechanical ability or are willing to spend the money for an hour or two of a mechanic’s time. I’m surprised that such an expensive product from SW Mototech doesn’t work better out of the box.

Excellent quality with one significant flaw

    sharpzuki

As usual, SW Motech delivers the goods with a really excellent quality product that offers a great aftermarket solution to something missing on the OEM side (in this case, luggage space). The fit and finish is top notch. The engineering is marvelous and the product exceeds the cosmetics of the big competition – Givi. However, they made a significant blunder with the turn signal relocation. I, like others, had to modify the mounting of my turn signals as the included relocation brackets were not machined to accept the OEM signal stalks and gaskets. It was not the end of the world, but I’m displeased that this is not a “plug and play” solution for the amount of money I invested.

I will recommend this product, but know that you will need to be mechanically savvy to make the whole package work as expected.

    Great quality, easy installtion

I ride SV650N 2006, and needed a solution for my every day commuting with my laptop and gear. The rack’s looks great and it very easy to install and the instructions are clear. I’ve also purchased a Givi Kappa adapter, very resourceful.

Turn signal fitment issues and loose bag mounting

    David

I installed the SW-Motech sidecarrier on a 2007 SV650S non-ABS model. The brackets fit the bike fine. However, the stock OEM turnsignals will not fit the relocation bracket. The OEM grommet the turnsinals fit in the stock fender will not fit the bracket because the oval hole in the bracket is too small and the steel is too thick. Mounting the turnsignals without the grommet also will not work without some modifiations, because the tunsignals, OEM backing plate, and nut will not tighten up enough to clamp against the relocation bracket. I had to make a 1/8″ thick rubber spacer to go between the backing plate and the relocation bracket to get it to tighten up. The turnsignal could also rotate more than I liked so I wrapped some 3M auto body tape about 2/3 of the way around the part of the backing plate which is inside the hole to get rid of the clearance. I am satisfied with the mounting now, but it took a lot of time and extra fabrication to get it to work. I checked the OEM part numbers on the turnsignals, grommet, and backing plate between 2004 and 2007 and they are the same.

I am using the sidecarrier with Givi hard bags. In other brands and older versions of SW- Motech sidecarriers, there are 4 rubber bumpers which keep the bags from rattling against the carriers. These sidecarriers only have 2 rubber bumpers along the top and the bottom of the bags are loose and rattle around on the mounts.
