DENALI 2.0 Installation and Operation

 

Housed in compact aluminum pods measuring just 2.2in in diameter and 2.4in deep the D2 LED lights are perhaps the most versatile design available; powerful enough to be your “primary” driving light yet small and light enough to comfortably mount on a fender. The DENALI D2s feature durable black powder-coated finishes and special cooling fins to make sure the LED itself runs cool and bright. New for the DENALI 2.0 series is a special Impact PC™ corrosion proof bezel that ensures your lights will continue to look great even after repeated stone and debris impacts. Low profile hinge mounts offer secure mounting and include stainless steel M8 mounting hardware for installation on light bars or model specific light mounts.

The D2 2.0 kit uses a just-developed HotSwap™ modular wiring harness that by default causes these single intensity lights to function at full brightness. But if you would like them to operate at both half and full power simply add the dual intensity DataDim™ controller. No other changes are required except to replace the original relay with the DataDim™ module and connect one wire to the high-beam circuit. (You can also purchase a three-position switch to manually control light intensity independent of the bike’s high beam.)

Also new with the DENALI 2.0 generation of lighting is the industry-leading TriOptic™ lens system. Each lamp comes with both spot (installed) and flood (supplied) lenses nothing else to buy. The spot lens produces the greatest beam distance while the flood lens produces a broader spread of light closer to the motorcycle filling the road edge and shoulders. To get the best of both worlds use a spot lens on one light and a flood lens on the other light for distance illumination and a useful spread of light at close range. The flood lenses are E-Marked to be road legal in countries where this is a requirement. No matter which lens you choose the D2 2.0 light kit lets you see the road (or lack thereof) and be seen by other traffic around you. It’s that simple: See further be seen better with DENALI!

Question: Hello I just bought a 2010 BMW F800GS this bike came with Twisted Throttle fog light. These lights did not worked. I went to a local electrician, he found that module did not pass energy, he conected directly to fuse and it works. My Q can I keep direct connection or do I have to buy a new module.

    I have a set of D4’s on my Honda Africa Twin. Those lights are awesome. Unfortunately, I got them before DataDim, so I can use them only with high beam. For my Honda ST1300, I decided to get some extra lights, mainly to see off the sides of the road up ahead while on low beam. I replaced my halogen headlight bulbs with some really nice LED bulbs, and they do quite well, especially on high beam. Low beam is quite good, too, but I wanted more illumination off to the sides. I also wanted something more streamlined for my ST1300 than big clunkers like the D4’s, and the D2’s looked like a good choice. Of course, they are smaller than the D4’s and therefore I knew they would not be so bright.

    The fact that the D2’s support the DataDim feature might lead one to believe they need it. I don’t think they do. On low beam, the lower intensity had virtually no effect on my ability to see. The high intensity was better but not outstanding. Bottom line is that I switched back to the original relay so that I get full power all the time. You should probably use the flood light lens on the side of oncoming traffic if you do that. That configuration is not excessively bright for oncoming drivers. I wound up using the flood light lens on my side of the road as well because it seems to illuminate just a bit better. Again, I have the lights angled outward to illuminate the periphery.

    If you decide to buy a set of D2’s. I would recommend that you pass on the DataDim upgrade and just use full intensity all the time. Instead, invest in the switch eliminator, because I can’t see why you’d ever switch them off. Now that I’m done with my testing, I’ve replaced the switch with the switch eliminator.

    Honestly, I am not really satisfied with the performance of these lights for my application, especially for the price. If I had it to do over again, I’d choose a model that produces more light.

    Timely delivery and everything needed for installation was there. Had dealer install and they commented on the quality and effectiveness of the additional lighting. Had the flood lens installed on the left engine guard and the pencil beam on the right. Definitely hard to miss. The dimming/low beam feature is great for in town riding.

    For 20 watts, these put a useful amount of light on the road. I attached to the fender mounts for my Suzuki Burgman 650. The mounts were very clean and easy to bolt on. I have the lights configured with 1 spot and 1 flood lens.
    The wire harness, though, is grossly over-engineered. It includes a separate branch with a switch, a separate branch with a relay, a connector in case you want to buy another harness and switch to add the Data-Dim feature, and a fuse. When I wired it up, the excess was much too thick and long to tuck neatly under the bodywork. And I still needed to solder an extra 6 inches onto the power leads, which were inexplicably short.
    Particularly for a bike that has the excellent Denali PowerHub, all that’s needed is a single pair of wires with an in-line switch and a short Y with connectors for the 2 lights. The PowerHub has the fuse and the relay already. When I have some spare time, I’ll cut away most of the harness and solder a simple pair of wires to what’s left.

    Excellent directions for installation. On my bike I had to fabricate a mounting bracket, but everything went together nicely. Good light for the size, excellent daytime visibility, decent nighttime range. Plus the delivery was quick and service excellent.

    2017 Tiger Explorer XRT....Great lights!

    Bought these to augment the Cyclops LED headlights and factory fog lamps I installed on my 2017 Tiger Explorer XRT.
    They do a better job of lighting up the road than the LED headlights!
    Installation was fairly straightforward, but to route the wiring required removal of the gas tank, which is a bit of a job on the Explorer.
    The wiring harness is high quality and strong, although the connection for the DataDim relay pointed in the wrong direction for me, making the routing of the wiring uneccessairly long.
    I may add the DataDim unit later, and set these up for high/low beam automatic operation, but for now I am content with the high beam only operation with the manual switch.

    I bought the Denali d2 lights. Purchased the ez canbus to connect everything all together on my 2014 r1200gs .installation was not too bad .when all connected the brightness of these lights cannot be beat for there size .Another satisfied customer.

    I really like these lights

    I bought these lights because of the LEDs, the size and the swappable lenses . I put lights on all my bikes because of night riding and country roads, but my 2016 Triumph T120 needed special help, the high-beam is almost useless.
    They tucked up nicely inside the top outside corners of the engine guards, hanging from rubberized P-clamps to quell vibration. The wiring is super easy to hook up and run. I wired mine into the USB charger under the seat.
    I use the high/low beam controller and switch, because part of Triumphs “go your own way” ideology is not using the front turn signals as running lights like the other manufacturers. The lights on low beam take care of this. I ride in a lot of fog in my commute at times, on dirt roads dodging horses, buggies, deer and other animals, so I use the amber lenses with the flood beam on the left and the spot on the right.
    Whether on high or low, they throw a really nice, bright beam, with a good pattern. I really am glad I chose these particular lights.
    My only niggling complaint is with the switch, for 2 reasons. The first is that I am not a fan of the mounting system, with the 2 small screws kitty-corner top and bottom. Those tiny screw heads stripped out before getting the switch tight enough to hold on a chrome tube handlebar. Larger screws and the double-sided tape supplied with the switch inside the clamp fixed that. The other is that the switch is small enough that it can be difficult to lock into the on position with heavy gloves.Other than that, these lights are bang-on perfect for my needs.

    My Multistrada does a great job out of the crate in terms of illuminating the road for night riding. But these little LED’s fill out the view going around corners and it really helps.

    It is easy to adjust them with the brackets TS sell, so you can angle them to avoid blinding oncoming traffic without really compromising their effect on illuminating dark roads.

    I am really happy with these lights. I’ve ridden with them from New England to British Columbia. I have no complaints. They are durable, reliable, and low profile.
