Several months ago I bought a pair of Denali D2 2.0’s for my ST1300 and was not too satisfied with them. They did little to improve my range of vision. I have already replaced my halogens with bright LEDs that work very well, and I mainly want extra visibility off the sides of the road, preferably on low beam as well as high beam. The D2’s were a disappointment for that application. (See my review of the D2’s if you want more detail.)
So, after consulting with the technical support team, I decided to try the D3’s. Don’t be fooled by the fact that the lumen rating is about the same as the D2’s. The D3’s are a different animal. On high beam, I see a lot better with the D3’s on. (I am using the hybrid lenses and have not even tried the spot lenses.) I have the lights mounted alongside the front fender and pointed outward a bit, and the D3’s kick in on the sides about where the headlights start to drop off, although I’m sure there is overlap. So, headlights combined with the D3’s create a nicely illuminated wide field of view. It’s much better than the headlights alone. On low beam, I can see better as well, but not surprisingly the improvement is less. On a dark, narrow road at about 40 to 45mph, I can see sharp turns better. But really, under those conditions, I would be on high beam anyway, if possible. Mainly, I just want to see a little better when I need to switch to low beam for oncoming traffic, and I think the D3’s accomplish this.
Even though the roads I tested on are dark and narrow, there was a fair amount of traffic, and I got flashed once, and maybe twice over about 20 minutes. Given that the roads are dark, narrow, curvy, and a little hilly, it’s not surprising that occasionally someone flashes. I looked at the bike from the front in a dark setting and the low beams don’t look bad.
Originally the D2’s appealed to me for aesthetic reasons because the sleek and low profile shape would be better for a road bike. But the aesthetics of the D3’s aren’t too bad and put out much more light.

If you want to see better at night, the D3’s are worth considering. The hybrid lenses provide a nicely illuminated wide field of view.

Hi. I know that this thread is a few months old, but I was wondering what percentage you have the low beams set for. I just installed my D3’s and love them, but I’m getting flashed more often than what you report. Thanks!

The trioptic d3 kit. the HI-lo controller or datadim controller leaves it on always. ? to shut off these lights i need the hi-lo – off or the on.off switch ?
If I want hi-lo it operates how ?
I don’t want o effect my existing hi/lo beam for my headlights. CB500x 2022 model
so I see i must have the hi-lo-off switch for the datadim controller ?

Matt, I am using the hybrid lenses pointed outward. I suggest that you park your bike in a dark area on your center stand if you have one, and take an objective look for yourself and adjust as necessary.
