What Is The AMPS Hole Pattern?

Posted on July 18 2011 by TwistedThrottle.com

The AMPS hole pattern is an industry standard hole configuration. It consists of four (4) holes located in a rectangular pattern spaced at 1.188″ by 1.813″ (30mm by 38mm). In most cases the AMPS pattern consists of 8 holes. This allows the mount to be fitted in both a horizontal or vertical orientation. Most third party mounting devices and cradles have the AMPS hole pattern.

Some available AMPS pattered device mounts:

  • ALL SW-MOTECH gadget mounts
  • RAM Mount Round Plate
  • RAM round antenna adapter plate for Garmin XM radio receivers
  • HR Gripper – large
  • HR Gripper – small

Does not fit the iphone 6 and larger smartphones

    Kevin B

I ordered this case to protect & mount my iphone 6s on my touring motorcycle. Pricing was reasonable and shipping was prompt. I choose this case specifically for its sun visor, weather resistance, and compatibility with the RAM-mounts bases and hardware. Unfortunately upon receipt the interior dimensions didn’t fit my iphone in its Otterbox case. Although disappointed, I really liked the navi bag’s construction, interior padding with the foam spacers and AMPS compatible mounting plate. Unfortunately the manufacturer has not optimized its sizing of these navi bags for the latest larger screen smartphones. I wish the manufacturer would list fit compatibility with the various makes/models of GPS & Smartphone with its navi cases. Twisted Throttle.com was more than helpful with returns and exchanges.

    Fits Iphone 5 great

Still waiting to take it on an extended trip this year but it lines the iPhone up right on top of the tank bag and should allow me to use the mapping function for a trip to BC.

    Acceptable solution for an iPhone

    gdmitchell

This works all right for my iPhone XS, though I did find the existing charge port isn’t that well positioned (there’s not enough room for the charger plug if you want the phone to stay flush) and I ended up cutting another slot higher up in the material, which I imagine will make it a bit less water-resistant, but oh well. I also wish the clear plastic weren’t so shiny, as it can make the screen hard to see in bright light.

I think the hard SW-MOTECH iPhone X/XS case would work better, but it seems to be somewhat difficult to get hold of outside Europe and is three times as expensive.
