Description

All hardware needed to mount the centerstand included. Typically installs using basic hand tools. No welding cutting or drilling of existing frame or body parts required. Tough black powdercoated finish with some gray fittings or hardware as applicable. A double-retention spring is included as a safety feature to prevent the centerstand from contacting pavement if one of the two springs should fail during a ride. Designed to work with OEM components — we cannot assure fit with aftermarket exhausts or other accessories.

SW-MOTECH Centerstand Installation on the BMW F650CS Scarver

Tools you will need:
3/8 drive torque wrench
3/8 drive rachet with 6” extension
8mm Allen socket
16mm or 5/8” socket
14mm or 9/16” combination wrench
Pair of standard pliers
Various blocks of wood
A good sturdy web strap with buckle such as a backpacking strap
Loctite
A few of your favorite cuss words for emergencies.

1. Unpack and make sure you have all parts listed.
Centerstand 2 springs long pivot pin bracket with 3 holes 10mm bolt 1 large
washer 1 small washer 1 spacer 1 spring hanger 1 rubber bumper 1 cotter pin.

2. Make sure the large pivot pin will slide through the holes in the centerstand and that
the 10mm bolt will go through the 3 holes in the bracket easily if not take a round
file and clean the paint out of the holes.

3. Install the rubber bumper in the boss welded to the side of the centerstand in the
end opposite the big square bar.

4. Now comes the hard part. You’re going to have to lift the bike so that the back wheel
is just touching the floor you cannot put any pressure on the sidestand or its mounting
tube. One of the best ways is to put a strap around the rear frame section near the fuel
filter and lift with a comealong. Another way is to put a jack under each foot peg
boss. I would recommend having a friend steady the bike during this operation.

5. Now that you have the bike suspended with the back tire just touching the floor
remove the lower rear engine mount bolt from the right side this bolt threads into the
sidestand support tube. Lay the bolt aside – you won’t use it again. Remove the lower
shock lever to frame mounting bolt take the bracket with 3 holes and align it with
the shock lever mounting hole and the engine mounting hole. Reinstall the shock bolt
through the bracket tab and shock lever/frame lug with a drop of locktite on the
threads. Install the supplied 10mm bolt and washer through the bracket and
engine. The sidestand support tube tends to sag so you’ll have to lift it up to screw
the engine mounting bolt into it.
Do not tighten the bolts at this time. Remove the lower front engine mounting
bolt just enough so that you can slip the supplied spacer (6mm thick) between
the frame and the sidestand support tube. Put a drop of loctite on the bolt and
screw it back in make sure the spacer don’t fall out. Now tighten the 2 engine
mounting bolts and the shock lever bolt/nut to the proper torque.

6. Put a little grease on the large pivot pin align the centerstand with the lugs on the
frame and install the large pivot pin through the centerstand and frame lugs from
the right side slide the large washer onto the end of the pivot pin and install the
cotter pin and bend the ends over.

7. Let the bike down and put it on the side stand. Put the transmission in first gear.
Take some blocks and put under the centerstand to hold it in the fully up position
or you can use another strap around the centerstand cross bar and the front of the
swingarm to hold the stand in the fully up position.
Put the small spring inside the large spring so that the loops are facing in the same
direction. Hold the spring hanger by the loop in your right hand with the large
hole up and to the left put the ends of the 2 springs through the small hole in the
spring hanger with the open ends facing you. Take a good sturdy belt of some sort
and make about a 1 foot circle with it put this loop over the spring hanger at the large
hole end. Now sit on the floor with all this mess in your hands facing the rear of the
bike on the right hand side.
Hook the free ends of the springs onto the spring lug on the centerstand. Now put
your left foot against the rear foot peg hanger and pull the spring hanger forward
until the large hole will slide over the spring pin on the bracket you installed.
Remove your pulling belt remove the blocks or belt holding the stand up take it out
of 1st gear and put it on the centerstand.
Isn’t that absolutely beautiful?
Time for a drink!!

Torque Spec’s:
Front engine bolt———- 55 NM——-41 Ft.Lbs.
Rear engine bolt——- — 50 NM——-37 Ft.Lbs.
Shock lever bolt/nut——–58 NM——-43 Ft.Lbs.

Special Note: We do not recommend installing centerstands on bikes with a lowered rear suspension because use on a lowered bike may result in:

  • Ground clearance & cornering clearance problems
  • Difficulty in lifting the lowered bike onto the centerstand
