Motorcycle enthusiasts have the idea that a big, adventure-themed touring bike might not be the most exciting. Kawasaki is trying to beat that image with the new, heavily updated Versys 1000 SE LT+. Heading the list of technological updates heaped on the big Versys, which appeared in the North American market in 2015, is a new electronically adjustable suspension. This is Kawasaki’s version of semi-active suspension, which adjusts damping in real time based on bike speed, attitude, and lean angle. Four ride modes help scale damping for sport riding or comfort. Those ride modes also inform the new ride-by-wire throttle system and traction-control thresholds. Also new for 2019 is a full-color LCD instrument panel, smartphone connectivity, cruise control, and sequenced cornering lights in the enlarged fairing. A pair of 28-liter saddlebags are standard.
