What Is The Motorcycle Relief Project?

Intro To The Motorcycle Relief Project?

When we decided to sponsor Motorcycle Relief Project, we knew it was a well-meaning organization doing good work. But as we’ve gotten to know the founder, Tom Larson, along with some of the program’s alumni, we’ve found that the people involved and the service they provide are nothing short of amazing.

Motorcycle Relief Project is a nonprofit organization that provides relief to veterans with PTSD and other injuries by taking them on multi-day motorcycle adventure tours, called “Relief Rides.” The rides, meals, and lodging are completely free for participants (they just have to get themselves to and from the rally point). In addition to experiencing some of the best dual-sport riding our country has to offer, MRP participants also learn techniques to manage their stress and move toward recovery. As MRP alumni Nate G. says in the video above, the program employs “no-nonsense, non-fluffy-bullsh*t therapy that actually works.” One key point is that veterans who are suffering from PTSD and other hidden illnesses of war get to be around people who know exactly what they’re going through, whether they’re currently experiencing it or have found a way to move on. Nate puts it well: “You just get around veterans again, like being in a platoon with like-minded individuals. Hash sh*t out, reset the circuits, and try to leave yourself a little bit better off when you go home.”

What We’re Doing To Help

This extraordinary program is currently surviving on the hard work and dedication of its founder and its volunteer crew, along with sponsorship from various individuals and organizations. We’re proud to say that Twisted Throttle, SW-MOTECH, and DENALI Electronics are among the companies supporting this program and its mission. We donate lights, luggage, crash protection, and anything else we can get our hands on to help this awesome cause.

On a personal note, I got to spend a weekend working with some of these gentlemen at Overland Expo West, and I can honestly say I’ve never met a more welcoming and humble group. They have a genuine desire to help others with no expectation of getting anything in return. Frankly, those are the kind of people I want in my life, and the people I will always do my best to support. To learn more about the program or make a donation on your own, click here.

  1. Thank you, Twisted Throttle. Your sponsorship means a lot! This program changes vets lives for the better. The riding might seem fun on the outside looking in, but it’s about wind therapy and learning to trust others again. Thanks for being a sponsor.
