The Best (New) Motorcycle Accessories Of 2017

As we’re kicking back and sipping leftover egg nog, watching snow fall while temperatures drop into the single digits, this seems like a great time to reminisce about this year’s motorcycle rides and all the cool new stuff we got to try out along the way. Because it’s more fun than thinking about my bike sitting in a garage on a Battery Tender while the tires slowly, sadly flatten themselves into the floor.  So here’s a list of our favorite motorcycle accessories to hit our shelves in 2017, to help you plan next year’s two-wheeled adventures.

KLIM Krios Karbon ADV Helmet
One of the most comfortable helmets out there for adventure enthusiasts! Made of hand-laid carbon fiber and weighing close to 3 lbs, this is the lightest ADV helmet on the market. It offers four different configurations to suit your riding environment (ADV, dirt, trail and street) — you can easily remove the peak and the faceshield, and fit goggles inside the eye port. Legend Gear LA5 Tool Bag
Useful and good-looking, and it fits almost anywhere. Mount this 1.6-liter bag on your handlebars or frame, or get creative with it — you’ve got multiple loops and tie-down straps for a versatile fit. It even includes a belt/waist strap for when you’re feeling extra fashionable. Like all Legend Gear, it’s made of Napalon synthetic leather and wax-coated canvas for a classic look and durable construction.

DENALI CANSmart Accessory Manager
This is designed specifically for BMW R1200 LC-series bikes, but more applications are on the way! The CANsmart provides plug-and-play installation of up to four electrical accessories, all controlled through your BMW’s existing handlebar switches (including the “WunderWheel”). There are dozens of customizable settings, and you can even control dimming of the two light circuits independently. No other accessory manager currently offers that.

DENALI 2.0 Light Kits
Our most powerful lights yet! All-new CREE LEDs offer incredible brightness and beam distance with very little power draw. No other auxiliary lighting kits offer the same combination of performance, functionality and customization options. The 2.0 lineup includes a plug-and-play dimming module (unlike the previous generation, all 2.0 lights are dual-intensity enabled), multiple beam lenses, a CANbus accessory controller and more. The D4 shown here has the optional amber lens — all lights kits come standard with clear lenses, though you can also buy upgraded kits with amber lenses included.

Scottoiler VSystem Sport Kit
When the guys from Scottoiler came over from Scotland a couple summers ago to do a product demonstration, every rider in the office wanted to put an automatic chain oiler on his/her bike. It just makes sense. This unit keeps your chain lubed using low-tack oil and an adjustable flow rate, giving you much longer chain life with a lot less manual chain maintenance. The new Sport version simply has a smaller reservoir than the full-size kit, to give you more flexibility in mounting options and save a little weight on your bike. (It will fit any model that the standard size vSystem will fit, and a whole lot more.)

GIVI DLM30A Trekker Dolomiti 30L Top/Side Case
The name kind of gives it away — the neatest thing about this case is that you can mount it as either a top or side case. GIVI purposely designed the case with rounded edges for added safety. Rugged and waterproof, and integrated tie-down loops, this Trekker Dolomiti is a great solution for adventure enthusiasts. If you’re using it as a top case, you can even add an optional backrest for passenger comfort. Note that you do need to purchase the appropriate GIVI top rack or side rack to mount the case.

Legend Gear LR3 Messenger Bag
Frankly, you don’t even have to ride to love this bag. It’s just freaking cool. However, it is actually designed for motorcycle riders, with a water-resistant internal roll-top closure, a cross-body strap, and four mounting points for using it as a tail bag. Like other Legend Gear, it’s made of Napalon synthetic leather and wax-coated canvas for a vintage-inspired yet weather-resistant design. The front flap includes M.O.L.L.E. loops to attach Legend Gear accessory bags.

TechSpec Pannier Cover Set
A neat, simple way to not only protect the top covers of your OEM hard cases, but also create a handy non-slip surface for things like cell phones, keys and other small items. These low-profile synthetic rubber pad are .125 inches thick and attach with a releasable self-adhesive backing. The BMW R1200GS LC ADV cases are shown here; kits are also available for the Kawasaki Concours 14 and BMW K1600GT and GTL.

R&G Headlight Shields
Available for various bikes, these easy-to-install shields deflect bugs, rocks and other debris to prevent scratches and pitting on your headlight. Made of high-strength acrylic with exceptional optical clarity, the shield attaches to the headlight with 3M DualLock recloseable fasteners — meaning you can easily remove the shield for cleaning. Each shield design is CNC-cut for a perfect bike-specific fit.

MRA Multi-X-Creen
If you’re already familiar with the MRA X-Creen, then you’ll recognize the spoiler at the top of this shield. The difference is, this one is directly integrated into the windshield for a sleek, low-profile design! You get the same great aerodynamics and multi-axis adjustability as the original X-Creen; it’s just a cleaner look that better matches the original shield’s dimensions. The Multi-X-Creen is available for the BMW R1200GS LC and LC ADV, BMW R1200RS and Suzuki V-Strom 650 and 650XT.

SW-MOTECH EVO Adjustable Foot Pegs
Twelve different positions for your pegs! These can be adjusted up and down, and forward and back, thanks to an offset cam on a sturdy, splined shaft. The EVO pegs also have a larger surface area than stock foot pegs, as well as removable rubber tread pads exposing deeply serrated teeth underneath. This means solid footing for your boot, no matter how slippery conditions get. These pegs are available in bike-specific fitments for many different motorcycles.

R&G Tie-Down Hooks
A simple, elegant way to add tie-down points for transporting your bike. These were designed with racers and track day riders in mind, where transporting a bike safely is a frequent — and important! — consideration. These sturdy hooks bolt into place where the passenger foot pegs normally mount. By hooking through one of these, you’re reducing the risk of bodywork damage from an errant tie-down strap, or of failure from a flimsy mounting point.

Scottoiler FS 365
Not to sound like a snake oil salesman, but this is kind of a miracle spray. It keeps dirt from clinging to almost any surface on your motorcycle, making it incredibly easy to clean your bike. It also protects surfaces from oxidation and corrosion, and reduces the catalytic effects of salt. And it’s biodegradable. This kit is one of the most innovative we’ve seen on the market, with truly high-quality tools that range from everyday uses to specialized functions. There’s not much I can say that our resident tool geek and motorcycle expert, Marc Cook, didn’t put in his thorough product description.
